.SK domain registration conditions

This help article explains the main requirements for registering and managing .SK (Slovakia) domains. It focuses on the correctness of registrant data, the registration and transfer approval process according to SK-NIC rules and the NIS 2 directive.

Correctness of registrant data (NIS 2 Directive)

When registering a .SK domain and throughout the domain’s validity period, the registrant must provide true, up-to-date and valid contact information. This requirement stems from the European Union’s NIS 2 Directive and is strictly enforced by SK-NIC.

The registrant’s contact information includes the first and last name and, if applicable, the name of the organization. It is important to remember that the organization name may only be used if the domain is registered by a company – in the case of a private individual, this field must be left blank. In addition, a full postal address must be provided, including the country, city, postal code and, if applicable, the county or state.

The telephone number and e-mail address are particularly important. Both must be valid and actually usable, as the registrar can contact the registrant through them. Orders for which a telephone number is not provided will not be processed.

SK-NIC and the registrar have the right to verify the accuracy of the information provided both at the time of domain registration and during its validity. If it turns out that the data is inaccurate, outdated or incomplete and the registrant does not correct it within a reasonable time, this may result in the temporary suspension of the domain or, in extreme cases, the deletion of the domain.

FOA – Form of Authorisation

For .SK domains, a mandatory confirmation process called FOA (Form of Authorisation) applies to domain registration and transfer of ownership. Its purpose is to ensure that the new domain owner is aware of all the terms and conditions and agrees to them.

When a request for a change of ownership of a .SK domain has been submitted, the system automatically sends the new registrant an email with the title “Authorised Registration Request for .sk”. This email contains a link through which the action can be confirmed.

NB! The registrant must respond within 72 hours (3 days). If the confirmation email has not been received at the email address specified in the domain contact details, then:

  • we recommend that you also look for this email in your Spam folder
  • contact support@zone.eu and we can resend it to you.

Through the form, the new registrant must actively confirm that they have read the SK-NIC General Terms and Conditions and understand and accept the terms related to the protection of personal data. Confirmation can only be given through explicit consent. If the registrant refuses or does not respond within the specified time, the domain registration or transfer cannot be completed.

This process ensures that both the domain registrant and SK-NIC are legally compliant and that personal data is processed in accordance with applicable laws.

Summary

For the smooth registration and management of a .SK domain, it is important that the registrant’s contact information is always correct and up-to-date, and that a working email address and phone number are in use. In the event of domain registration or a change of ownership, it is essential to follow the FOA confirmation letter and provide consent within 72 hours.

Meeting these requirements will help avoid delays, domain suspension or deletion, and ensure smooth cooperation with SK-NIC and the registrar.
