Before changing the nameservers of a .IT domain, it is necessary to check whether the new nameservers meet the technical requirements of Registro .it (the Italian Central Registry of .IT Domains).
If the nameservers do not pass the Registro .it check, the nameserver change may fail or the domain may be disrupted.
Why is testing necessary?
Registro .it applies specific technical and quality requirements to .IT domains to ensure stable and correct functioning of the domains.
The purpose of testing is to ensure:
- DNS reliability
- correct response to queries
- correct configuration of name servers
- sufficient number and availability of name servers
If the name servers do not meet the requirements, Registro .it may reject the change or the domain may remain temporarily inactive.
How does the test work?
- Open:
https://www.nic.it/en/manage-your-it/dns-check - Enter:
- domain name
- new name servers (e.g. ns1.example.com, ns2.example.com)
- Run the test and wait for the results
Meaning of the test results
- Successful result (OK / No errors)
Name servers meet Registro .it requirements
→ The name server change can be made safely - Error or warning (Error / Warning)
Name servers do not meet the requirements
→ The name server change may fail or the domain may not function correctly. In this case, you should correct the name server settings or contact your service provider before making the change.
